Jimmie Johnson was the big winner in Texas Saturday as he picked up his second victory of the season. He also made a big move up the point standings.

Jimmie Johnson has had a good start to the 2015 season, not a great one.

Saturday night, he made the argument for a great start to the season after he held Kevin Harvick off to pick up his second victory of the season.

Harvick continued to look like the best driver on the track, something he has done all season. Harvick finished second and gave Johnson a good run at the end, but ultimately his hard racing cost him as he grazed the wall.

That was enough to give Johnson room to pull away for his second victory of the season and a boost in the point standings.

Jimmie leapfrogged Joey Logano for second in the points standings and sits firmly behind Kevin Harvick for the points lead. Harvick has finished at least Top-10 in all seven races this season and has yet to show any signs of slowing down.

However, if there is anyone that can give Harvick a run for his money, it’s Johnson who is a six time Sprint Cup Champion and has finished first and second alongside Harvick 11 times. Johnson has one nine of those matchups.

With seven races in the books, here is the updated points standings after seven weeks.

The big winners this week were Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards. Johnson’s win catapulted him to second. Gordon’s Top-10 finish pushed him to 13th and Carl Edwards had his first Top-10 of the season which was good for 14th in the chase standings.

Next week NASCAR heads to the short track of Bristol, where there is sure to be almost no separation on the track between drivers.

It will be a good chance for maybe some other drivers who excel at short tracks to put drivers like Johnson and Harvick to the test.
