The Kansas City Chiefs have 10 picks in the 2015 draft. Here is the list.

Looking at the list of Kansas City’s draft picks in 2015 is a little like looking at the Mona Lisa. There’s nothing that impressive about it, yet it’s among the most touted works of art known to man in the modern era.

What is meant is that the Chiefs really haven’t lost players who stuck out as great football players, yet here they sit on essentially the eve of the draft with four extra picks. John Schneider is a master. I want to pay him money to run my fantasy football team, even though we can’t buy or sell our picks.

I’m pretty sure he’d find a way to get me an extra pick or two. But ultimately all the picks in the world don’t do much good if they are squandered. And therein lies the trick. No. 18 is not a spot where any team expects to find a superduperstar—a very good player, and definitely a starter, but not the kind of guy who takes a team from above average to legitimate Super Bowl contender, and certainly not overnight (granted there’s so few of those players in the NFL that even qualifying it this way may be unfair).

But two things the Chiefs’ plentitude of picks did is, one, allowed them to acquire Ben Grubbs from the New Orleans Saints for their fifth-round pick—which the Chiefs believe give them an upgrade at one guard spot. And they still have 10 picks to play with in this draft.

Honestly, if John Schneider isn’t trying to move up from 18, he’s doing it wrong. The Chiefs aren’t that far away from being a legitimate contender. That one special player—if they’ve done their scouting right—could make the difference for them in what seems to be a more wide open AFC West than in years.

Here are the 10 picks the Chiefs hold in this weekend’s draft, which begins Thursday evening.
