The Clippers literally took DeAndre Jordan hostage on Wednesday night ahead of the free agent moratorium expiring, and the internet had zero chill.

Wednesday was a really weird day for Basketball Twitter. The day was dominated by the slow roasted narrative  that DeAndre Jordan was getting cold feet about signing with the Mavericks and was beginning to wish he had committed to re-sign with the Clippers.

It took a contingency of Doc Rivers, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick flying to Houston to tell him he didn’t have to sign with the Mavericks to get DeAndre Jordan to back out of his verbal agreement with Mark Cuban. Thus began the most bizarre hostage situation ever, as the Clippers refused to leave Jordan’s residence until midnight, when he could sign with the Clippers officially.

This lit Basketball Twitter on fire, as the fun had at the expense of the DeAndre Jordan hostage crisis was some of the most fun any one community has had on social media ever.

The DeAndre Jordan/Clippers/Mark Cuban hostage memes rolled in early and didn’t stop all day long.

If it wasn’t already confirmed before Wednesday, Basketball Twitter is the greatest place on the face of the Earth. The internet had no chill on Wednesday and it was one of the few occasions where the internet wasn’t a terrible place to be, and we can only hope for more days like this — minus the hostage situation angle.
