It’s been a long time since Pittsburgh Panthers football was a national power, but they’re attempting to recapture that spirit with a throwback uniform for 2016 homecoming.

After four straight years with six or seven wins, the Pittsburgh Panthers went 8-5 in Pat Narduzzi’s first season as head coach last year. They’ll return 16 starters from that squad this year, including eight on each side of the ball. That group of returning starters does not include running back James Conner, the 2014 ACC Player of the Year. A knee injury cost Conner most of the 2015 season, and he’s now cancer-free after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The future looks very bright for Pitt football, and a blast from the past is coming for a game this season.

As the first tweet discloses, the Panthers will wear throwback uniforms for their homecoming contest against Georgia Tech on Oct. 8.

Narduzzi used his personal Twitter account to post a cool ode to Pitt’s glory days, which produced a pipeline of NFL talent that included Pro Football Hall of Famers Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino.

The campaign for the Panthers to wear these throwback uniforms full-time can start immediately.
