Miguel Montero provided postseason heroics for a second time with this RBI single to extend the Cubs lead.

Miguel Montero has already been a hero for the Cubs in the postseason. He hit a pinch-hit grand slam in Game 1 of the NLCS to give Chicago a late lead. They eventually went on to make the 2016 World Series.

On Wednesday night, Game 7 took place. The Cleveland Indians had a 3-1 series lead after Game 4 but lost Games 5 and 6 to the Cubs. This led to the final match-up in Cleveland, which had a historic championship win on the line for one of these teams.

In the 8th inning, the Indians fought back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the game, 6-6. The game would then remain tied in the next inning before going to extras.

From the start of the 10th inning, the Cubs broke it open with multiple base hits. Ben Zobrist hit a double to give them the lead, and after an intentional walk, Montero would come to bat. While it wasn’t a grand slam, he cracked a single to extend their lead, 8-6.

The Cubs had the bases loaded after this but did not add any more runs. Still, though, a two-run lead into the 10th inning may be all that they need for a win.

Miguel Montero’s hit will go a long way for the Cubs protecting their lead. It makes this that much more difficult for the Indians to come back, which they already had to do in this game.
