Giannis Antetokounmpo is a lot like Conor McGregor, in that he’s an international superstar who isn’t here to take part, he’s here to take over.

Last night, we were treated to an incredible duel between two of the league’s best players and presumptive MVP candidates. Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder arrived in Milwaukee, along with his stans. They expected Westbrook to put on another dominant performance. Instead, they saw him get upstaged by the Greek Freak.

With the way Westbrook has been playing, he’s quickly becoming one of the hottest tickets in town. While the Milwaukee crowd certainly wanted their Bucks to win, they were there to see Westbrook just as much as they were there to see their team. While the crowd may have started off showing a ton of respect to the Brodie, that all changed when he decided to mock the pride of Wisconsin:

That’s right, Westbrook had the nerve to do Aaron Rodgers’ celebration after hitting a three-pointer! This coming a day after the Green Bay Packers finished the season 6-0 to book their ticket to the playoffs! We knew he was cold-blooded, but damn that was cruel.

It’s one thing to lose to the Thunder, but it’s another thing to let their superstar mock yours while in enemy territory. And even though Giannis has only been in Wisconsin for three and a half years, he wasn’t going to stand for this. That’s why he took matters into his own hands by transforming into Point Giannis.

Once Point Giannis came into the game, the tide started to turn. Already having a stellar game, Antentokounmpo recorded his only block of the game, but it came on… you guessed it:

Not only did Giannis assert his authority over Westbrook with that block, he converted Westbrook stans into non-believers. Watch as this kid tries to hide his anguish:

You might say the kid only did it for the Snapchat, or to make another “You versus the guy she tells you not to worry about” meme. But the way he put on that jersey made it look like he resigned himself to defeat. It also looked like he was goaded on by the fans behind him, who probably handed him that Giannis jersey to begin with.

And if he thought the Greek Freak was finished there, he was dead wrong. With the game winding down, Giannis put Domantas Sabonis on a poster to help see out the win:

While this fan, and other Thunder fans in the building, fully expected Westbrook to put on a show-stopping performance on the road, it was Giannis who came in and… stole his Thunder.

It’s not that Westbrook didn’t have a terrific game, he did. But all people will remember is the way that Giannis took over as well as the loss that Westbrook took. And in a time where everyone is #NBAVoting like crazy, that’s significant. Giannis can’t impact Westbrook’s All-Star campaign since they play in different conferences, but after this game, some people that may have voted for him before could abstain from doing so. If that sounds familiar, that’s because it should.

But ultimately, Westbrook and Giannis aren’t concerned about the All-Star race, or even the MVP race — they’re focused on their team’s success. But if that means Giannis will keep doing this in order for the Bucks to win, he’ll be winning over a lot more fans in no time.
