Edmond Sumner calls out critics after Xavier upsets Arizona

After the Xavier Musketeers upset the Arizona Wildcats, injured guard Edmond Sumner called out the critics that didn’t believe in the team.

One of the bigger upsets thus far in the 2017 NCAA Tournament occurred on Thursday night, when the No. 11 Xavier Musketeers defeated the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats. While it was certainly an upset to most, Xavier certainly didn’t see it the way. Star guard Edmond Sumner certainly made sure to point it out after the game.

When Sumner went down for the year, plenty of people that were high on Xavier before the year suddenly soured on them. It’s understandable considering what Sumner meant to the program but he made sure to let it be known the team always knew what they were capable of.

Considering the way Xavier has come out in this tournament and taken the fight to every team they’ve played, they certainly have been playing like a team that deserved much better than a No. 11 seed.

Nonetheless, they took what they were given and now they’re going to the Elite Eight. They will face Gonzaga with a trip to the Final Four on the line. This year has been nothing short of a success for a program and the team has a chance to accomplish an even bigger dream on Saturday.

Chris Mack has done an exceptional job having his guys ready for the moment. The fact they have got this far certainly is a testament to what they have been able to do Still, it’s not a surprise to Sumner or anyone within the program.
