Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby and Conor Sheary both returned to practice today, a huge lift for Pittsburgh heading into Game 5 against the Washington Capitals Saturday night.

It is undoubtedly great news to see superstar Crosby skating and practicing again so quickly after suffering yet another concussion. Crosby suffered his most recent concussion during Game 3 when he took a high stick from Alex Ovechkin, leading him to fall directly into the path of a cross-check from Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen.

Alex Ovechkin and Matt Niskanen have come under fire since the incident in Game 3, but this will surely calm down the chatter. Despite the fact that it does not excuse what happened, the fact that it turned out to be a minor concussion should shed a bit of light on what was undoubtedly a dark situation.

“(Ovechkin) is just trying to prevent a goal. That’s a pretty common play,” Crosby said about the incident that occurred during Game 3. “There are different levels of how hard, but that’s standard as far as going to the net with the puck, guys are trying to prevent you from shooting.

“The other play (with Niskanen) is hard to say. I’m not going to sit here and guess. It’s not one that happens too often.”

Crosby did participate in full practice this morning, but there was no news on whether or not he would return in Game 5, or whether it would be later. Conor Sheary, much like Crosby, also suffered a concussion in Game 3 against the Capitals.

Much like Crosby, Sheary participated in full practice this morning. Sheary looks to be a game-time decision tomorrow night, with participating in practice giving hope that the Penguins will get a much-needed boost to close out the series against the Presidents Trophy holding Washington Capitals.
