Darrelle Revis Trade Rumors: Atlanta Falcons Not Seriously Interested
By Josh Sanchez
Earlier this morning, a report surfaced that the New York Jets had some potential trade partners for star cornerback Darrelle Revis that including the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Many close to the Falcons organization believe that there is no serious interest from the team in a deal for Revis.
A big reason for the Falcons being linked to Revis is the cap space that they have cleared out prior to the start of free agency. However, the cap space was not made available to bring in a big money player.
From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"“Don’t get too worked up about the Revis report. Falcons freed up cash for their free agents. Jets trying to leverage 49ers with leak.”"
The Jets using this leak to gain leverage in trade talks is certainly a reasonable explanation for Atlanta being linked to Revis.
Every team around the league knows that the Jets are becoming desperate to move their best defensive player, so that brings down his trade value.
By introducing a report that has two or three teams interested in Revis, the Jets could hope to created a “bidding war” that would drive up the price for Revis.
The trade rumors will not be dying down anytime soon and we can only expect them to pick up as free agency opens. For all we know, we could end up hearing that the Falcons are once again interested in a day or two.
Until then, buckle up and enjoy the ride, because the New York Jets never leave anything dull.
