Speculation was mounting that future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez was planning a return to the Atlanta Falcons after considering retirement, and we now have firm proof that Gonzalez is set to return. Per USA Today, Gonzalez has informed his agent to go ahead and begin negotiating with the Falcons.

The article reads:

"Tony Gonzalez hasn’t publicly declared that he will return for a 17th NFL season, but here’s another sign that he apparently is leaning in that direction: The Atlanta Falcons tight end has given his agent, Tom Condon, the green light to talk to the team about a new contract, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports."

Gonzalez understands just how close the Falcons are to a Super Bowl and he still has a lot of football left to play. Last season, Gonzalez showed no signs of slowing down and had one of his most productive years.

Atlanta has to be very pleased with this news.
