The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles were making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and they did not disappoint. Not only did Florida Gulf Coast manage to put on a respectable performance, they were able to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Florida Gulf Coast was able to know off the Georgetown Hoyas in a monumental upset.

The No. 15 seed Eagles took down the No. 2 seed Hoyas to advance in the South Region. No one believed in the Eagles, but they hung in and shocked the world.

Florida Gulf Coast’s back court led the way for their improbable win. Guards Sherwood Brown and Bernard Thompson led the game in scoring with points 24 and 23 points, respectively. Brown added 9 rebounds, while Thompson contributed seven on the boards.

Markel Starks led the Hoyas in scoring with 23 points.

With the win, Florida Gulf Coast advances and will face the winner of San Diego State vs. Oklahoma. They have the potential to become one of the tournament’s biggest Cinderella teams if they are able to win another game and advance to the Sweet 16.
