Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons Talking Contract Extension

The next step for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons for a new contract continues.

Ryan is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Falcons and now both sides are in serious talks of a contract extension. The 28 year old quarterback is coming off back to back 4,000 yard seasons and has only missed 2 games in his young career. He is 56-22 as a starter and has led the Atlanta Falcons to the playoffs 4 times out of the last 5 seasons.

It is being reported that his agent Tom Condon, is going to be asking for Joe Flacco/Aaron Rodgers money. Which means that Matt Ryan would be sitting pretty with that extra $50 million guaranteed and $18-$22 million annually. If the 2 sides can’t come to an agreement on the extension, the Atlanta Falcons can always decide to franchise tag Ryan next season, buying them extra time to get a new deal in place.

I don’t see the Falcons NOT giving Matt Ryan the money that Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco are making in their current contracts. It would be pretty dumb of them to let a quarterback of Ryan’s talent to just drift away like that. If they do, they need to be fired. I can’t see him playing for another team and I’m sure Matt Ryan himself thinks this too. Surrounded by the talent he has in Atlanta gives them a very good chance when it comes to winning the division and making it deep into the playoffs, possibly a Super Bowl victory.

But as of right now, the ball is in general manager Thomas Dimitroff’s court and he should make the right decision. If anybody deserves this money, I believe it’s Matt Ryan, not Joe Flacco.
