The New England Patriots are a bit thin at wide receiver so it seems a bit odd to suggest that Michael Jenkins may not make the final roster.

A former Ohio State Buckeye, Jenkins spent most of his nine year career with the Atlanta Falcons before landing in Minnesota with the Vikings the past two seasons.

Now trying to secure a spot with the Patriots, Jenkins had been running as the starting “X” receiver during their most recent minicamp but according to ESPN Boston that’s no guarantee for a final roster spot. In fact, Mike Reiss and Field Yates don’t feel as if Jenkins will make the cut:

"Veteran Michael Jenkins looks like he can help this team, but a combination of protecting young assets and his likely availability after Week 1 could initially have him on the outside looking in. Edelman’s health (PUP/foot) is a notable storyline here as well.Thompkins is a surprise pick over veteran Michael Jenkins."

With training camp set to open shortly there is still plenty of time for Jenkins to assert himself, but it sounds like he may need to get a move on it quickly if he wants a guaranteed spot.
