A few weeks back, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill was suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Unlike most, Brazill didn’t shy away from the masses of reporters who greeted him as the Colts opened their training camp. In fact, Brazill faced the scrum and admitted that marijuana was bringing him down:

"And he admitted his recent four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy came down to him needing to decide between “money or marijuana.”Not much of a choice. Seriously, NFL money seems pretty obvious. That he admitted pot was what brought him down surprised me. We’re used to guys just taking the high road, least said the better. But Brazill admitted he screwed up, even said he didn’t take the situation seriously enough, and vowed the team wouldn’t have another problem with him. The Colts better not because, as he also conceded, he’s basically on zero tolerance."

Brazill’s roster spot isn’t a given as he’s competing for the fourth receiver position behind Reggie Wayne, Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton. Add in the suspension and the wideout is on thin ice, but at least he’s saying all the right things.
