The Cincinnati Bengals released their first depth chart today which came with a few shockers, including the anointment of BenJarvus Green-Ellis being named the starting running back.

Of course, as training camp goes on the depth chart is subject to change and it’s somewhat unheard of to remove a veteran from the starting spot when camp opens (especially when the alternative is a rookie), though, Green-Ellis hasn’t exactly done much to be given the title.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis pounded the rock last year which lead to Ellis posting a career high in yards rushed, though, the former Mississippi tailback only managed 3.9 yards a carry. He also struggled in the passing game, dropping 7 of his 29 targets.

Listed behind Green-Ellis on the depth chart is rookie Gio Bernard who reportedly has been having a stellar camp.

While there’s no guarantee Bernard will pass BenJarvus on the depth chart, he’ll certainly eat into some of his carries this year and provides much better help out of the backfield in pass catching formations.
