Despite playing at Baylor University, Elliot Coffey was never a big name talent. It resulted in the defensive player going undrafted in 2012, though, he did latch on with the Denver Broncos as a free agent.
That signing didn’t mean much though as Coffey never appeared in a single game and has been out of football for over a year.
How quickly things can change though.
According to Drew Dougherty, not only was Coffey recently signed to a contract by the Houston Texans, just a week ago he was working at Enterprise Rental Cars:
"Just talked w ILB Elliot Coffey. This time last week he was working at Enterprise Rental Car."
The Houston Texas also had a piece on the story where Coffey explains how it all went down:
"“I actually got a call from my agent,” Coffey said. “He said that the Texans were interested, and you’ve got a workout on Sunday. Make sure you’re ready to go out there and fly around.”Coffey signed with the club and practiced this morning and afternoon. This time last week, the inside linebacker was working at the Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Sugar Land, on Highway 6 between 59 and 90.“I had to leave work and start working out for the next five days as hard as I could without hurting my chances on Sunday and it worked out,” Coffey said."
It’s unlikely that Coffey will be able to crack the Texans 53-man roster once camp closes, but, at least he’s being given an opportunity. It certainly beats working behind the counter at a car rental job, right?
