Quarterback Matt Flynn has never been known as a gun slinger, though the Oakland Raiders coaching staff doesn’t even envision him being a pistol slinger.

According to Vic Tafur, the Raiders coaching staff has ‘accepted’ the fact that Flynn will not have any success throwing the ball more than 25 yards:

"Flynn just not going to have success throwing longer than 25 yards, been clear all camp. Coaches have accepted that"

The former LSU product has spent the majority of his career in the shadow of Aaron Rodgers, so there really isn’t much to go off statistically to disprove the coaching staff’s point.

Flynn wasn’t exactly known for his bombs in college and in the few reps he’s seen in the NFL, any success he’s had has come from dump passes.

Combine Flynn’s weak arm (quite possibly the weakest in the league) with the Raiders sub-par offensive line and iffy wide receivers (and that’s being kind) and you have a recipe for disaster.

Sounds as if it might be a long season in Oakland.
