Washington Nationals superstar Bryce Harper still has a few years left of arbitration, but his power agent Scott Boras thinks the Nats need to forget about seeing an arbitrator and pony up the cash.

Boras was recently in Washington, hanging out with Harper and decided to meet with the Nationals front office to lay out his upcoming plan – a twelve year contract for the five-tool outfielder.

Per the Washington Post’s Adam Kilgore:

"Scott Boras at the yard today. He laid out a not-so-abstract case for the Nats signing Bryce Harper to a 12-year contract.Boras, asked how two sides could possibly come up with a number that works for a 12-year deal: “It’s easy.” He’s too much."

On the surface, a twelve year deal seems absurd. Though, it’s not as if it’s that far off from a ten year deal which we’ve seen a few times. Add in the fact that it’s more of an extension than an actual contract, since the Nationals would be buying out some of Harper’s arbitration eligible years, and the contract turns into more of an eight year deal, sans the arbitration years.

Question is – is he worth it? Is anybody worth it? The Nationals would certainly be paying a pretty penny right now, but Harper could end up being a bargain (in relative terms) come six or seven years into the said contract.
