Well, just a few hours ago the New England Patriots suggested they weren’t sure who would be given the starting running back duties for their game against the New York Jets this coming Thursday.

That question has now been answered in the most unfortunate of ways.

Running back Shane Vereen suffered a broken wrist during yesterday’s game against the Buffalo Bills and will be out for ‘a few weeks’ according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer:

"Big hit for patriots, RB Shane Vereen broke a small bone in his wrist on 1st play yesterday, scheduled for surgery today. Out few weeks"

A rough blow for the Pats, though, Vereen impressively played through the game with the broken bone:

"Vereen played entire game with injury but experienced numbness afterwards as bone sits on nerve"

Stevan Ridley, who started the game was benched due to his fumble, though, will likely draw the start for the Patriots now, especially considering the short week turnaround for the Thursday game.
