The San Francisco 49ers, after two straight trips to the NFC Championship game (and a Super Bowl appearance) had no doubts they’d be playing late into January when the season began. But after a tough schedule and some heartbreaking losses, the Niners are more concerned about just making the playoffs as they sit with a solid, though, uninspiring 6-4 record.

Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins, who had hopes of potentially being a playoff team are struggling with a 3-7 record. Robert Griffin III has finally been rounding into form and the Redskins have improved their play in recent weeks, though it hasn’t translated into the win column as they’re losers of four straight.

San Francisco on the other hand is coming into Monday nights matchup losers of two straight, though both losses were by a combined four points.

Regardless, on paper, San Francisco is a much better team and that should be on display when the two teams take the field. The Redskins should put up some numbers as the 49ers once vaulted defense isn’t nearly as suffocating, but they’ll likely struggle to keep up with the reigning NFC Champions.
