When the Houston Texans open the 2014 season, it’s possible they’ll be without running back Ben Tate who has likely played his final game with the team, this according to the Houston Chronicle:

"In all probability, running back Ben Tate has played his last game with the Texans. Tate is in the last year of his contract, and he was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. He reinjured one of the four ribs he cracked against Kansas City. Tate is expected to sign a lucrative contract with another team when free agency begins in March."

Tate, who has played a backup role to Arian Foster the past few seasons finally had his chance to emerge when Foster went down early in the season for the remainder of the year. Tate himself though struggled to remain healthy and it appears the Texans feel he isn’t worth the investment – at least according to the Chronicle, as the team still has Foster among other tailbacks like Dennis Johnson, Deji Karim and more.

Dennis Johnson has been announced the starter for Week 16.
