When Tyrann Mathieu went down with a torn ACL and LCL, the Cardinals knew their defensive back would have a rough road ahead.

That will likely include missing training camp according to the Arizona Cardinals blog who says Mathieu will likely need between a six and nine month recovery period.

"How long was long, however, was anyone’s guess. General Manager Steve Keim said the initial thought from the Cardinals’ medical staff was a six-to-nine month comeback. Keim, looking at the kind of person Mathieu is, isn’t about to rule out Mathieu returning sooner rather than later."

With training camp starting in July and August for many teams, it’s unlikely Mathieu will be ready and it’s possible he could miss a fair portion (if not all of camp) if he’s forced to sit out the entire nine months.

Still, barring any setbacks, it appears the Honey Badger will be ready for action come Week 1 – though he may understandably be a bit rusty for a few weeks.

The Cardinals aren’t likely to rush Mathieu’s process considering his value to the franchise.
