It’s been said you never want to lay your cards on the table.

Apparently, that’s not a rule that Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman abides by.

The GM spoke to TwinCities.com recently about running back Adrian Peterson and said the team has no plans to trade their franchise running back.

"“Adrian is not going anywhere,” he said. “We have him under contract. He’s the face of our franchise. He is a blue-chip player. And we have a new coaching staff in place, and (the Vikings are) very excited about what’s coming ahead for us.”"

Peterson of course is coming off groin surgery and at 28, is nearing that inevitable age of 30 where so many great running backs eventually hit their decline. That’s not to say Peterson will follow a similar path, though it is a little odd to see a general manager so adamant about not trading a player.

Smart decision or not, it appears Peterson will not be going anywhere in the near future.
