Atlanta Falcons defensive end Osi Umenyiora is under contract for the 2014 season, slated to make $2.5 million in base salary and a $500,000 roster bonus due at the end of March. But with the Falcons releasing four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel, Umenyiora knows he isn’t guaranteed a spot.

“I would love to stay, and I think I am,” Umenyiora told ESPN.com. “But you really never know what’s going to happen.”

The team could decide to upgrade whether it be drafting a player or free agency. Umenyiora said he is prepared for whatever comes and that he understands the business side of the league.

“I know they are going to do whatever is necessary to better their team,” he said. “That’s just part of it. It’s never personal. I’ll always have a tremendous amount of respect and love for Mr. Dimitroff. He gave me a great opportunity. It’s pretty much whatever at this point.”
