Now that the Sacramento Kings have officially signed former Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers forward Royce White to a 10-day contract, they want to make sure the world knows this move is about what White can do on the court.

“We’re not making too much out of it,” Kings General Manager Pete D’Alessandro told Jonathan Santiago of Cowbell Kingdom. “This is a 10-day basketball contract for a guy that wants a chance and we want to give him that chance.”

The Kings have assigned White, who has battled anxiety disorder, to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA’s Developmental League.

White, who was the 16th overall pick of the 2012 draft is excited to get back to basketball.

“The focus in our conversation was just, this is about basketball,” D’Alessandro said of his talks with White. “That’s what this is about. And getting back on the court is something that he wants to do.

White had five points and four rebounds in his Big Horns’ debut Friday night.

In 16 games (eight starts) with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers last season, White averaged 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
