If quarterback Michael Vick is to sign with the New York Jets, he wants to make sure he’ll be given his traditional #7 – a number ironically worn by fellow quarterback Geno Smith, a player he’d be directing competing against for a starting position.

Understandably, Smith probably isn’t over thrilled with having to give up his number if the Jets were to sign Vick, but the former Pro Bowl signal caller wants the number and it’s said to be a ‘big issue’ in regards to contractual negotiations, this according to TMZ Sports.

"Michael Vick knows his price … and it might be way too high for the NY Jets … because he wants the jersey that belongs to the current starting QB — and it’s gonna be an issue during negotiations, TMZ Sports has learned.Sources close to Vick tell us … Mike is very serious about rocking #7 next season, no matter which team signs him."

In addition to wearing the number in college and during his entire professional career, Vick also owns the clothing company ‘V7’ so it’s understandable why he wants the number, though TMZ does go on to suggest it’s not a complete deal breaker if he doesn’t get it.
