Few teams are in need of wide receiver help more than the Carolina Panthers so it only makes sense the team would have interest in free agent Sidney Rice.

Reports leaked on Monday afternoon suggesting that the Panthers would be interested in Rice at the ‘right price’ but ESPN’s David Newton considers Carolina to be a ‘long shot’ in signing the talented wideout.

"Here is what I know. According to a source, Rice was not in town for an official visit with the Panthers. As of Tuesday morning, no official visit was scheduled. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen at some point, although I would consider him signing here a long shot."

Rice would certainly get his fair share of playing time with the Panthers and has a formidable man under center in Cam Newton throwing him the ball, so it would seem to be a nice landing spot for Rice. But the veteran may be asking for too much money and Carolina understandably doesn’t want to start overpaying for solid but unspectacular wide receivers just because they’re thin at the position.
