If the New York Knicks are to retain Carmelo Anthony in free agency, they’re going to do so by retooling rather than rebuilding.

The All-Star small forward, who missed the final game of the Knicks season with a labrum injury informed Ian Begley that he’s not interested in a rebuild at this point of his career and stated that while he wants to come back, he also wants to win.

It seems more and more as if Melo has put the pressure on the Knicks in regards to his free agency plans. He’s been vocal that he’s willing to return, but it has to be for the right situation – a right situation that involves the Knicks getting rather creative financially and bringing in high quality players that will allow the Knicks to compete with fellow Eastern Conference powerhouses.

Of course, that’s a lot easier said than done. Might a single move or two be enough to appease Melo with the promise of another in-season move? Sounds like we’ll find out in the coming weeks and months.
