The Atlanta Falcons went to the NFC Championship and almost made it to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season. Heading into the 2013 season they expected to be making another deep post season run, instead their season never really got going and finished the season with a 4-12 record.

According to Mike Smith, the Falcons head coach, he thinks they’ll make it back into the playoffs in 2014.

“I feel very good about it,” Smith said, via NFL.com. “If somebody asks me, ‘Do you think we’re gonna make the playoffs?’ I’d tell you, ‘Yes.'”

Of course what else do you say someone working and competing in sports to say. If they didn’t think there was a chance then they wouldn’t bother playing the games right? What makes these comments interesting is that Smith isn’t necessarily known for being so blunt and out going, so when he said this without being prompted you take notice.
