In a move that will be to the surprise of no one, the Atlanta Falcons have exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver Julio Jones, according to Jay Glazer.

"Falcons are exercising the fifth year option on WR Julio Jones"

The Falcons and the former first round pick who the Falcons traded up 21 spots to select with the sixth pick in the 2011 draft out of Alabama are likely to come to an agreement on a long-term deal in the next year, so this option year is merely just a formality as Jones should be in Atlanta for the foreseeable future.

Jones, 25, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2012 after he had career-highs in receptions with 79, yards with 1,198 yards and 10 touchdowns. Jones is still recovering from foot surgery that limited him to five games last year. At the time of injury, Jones was leading the NFL with 580 receiving yards.

With a healthy Jones, the Falcons should be able to get back playoff contention in 2014.
