The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to get their franchise righted as things have been rather unsavory since the Kevin Garnett years came to an end almost a decade ago. Once again the team is in danger of losing it’s franchise player and in danger of needing to rebuild once again.

But no matter the drama about Kevin Love or what will happen in 2015, there is something cool going on that will take Wolves fans to a happier place. It’s not anything that will bring a title to Minnesota but the fact that Target Center is getting renovated is something that will at least give fans something else to think about.

The first architectural renderings of the new stadium have been released and while they look similar to mocks we’ve seen before, the end result is something that will at least make losing look pretty for the Timberwolves.

The hardwood exterior design will most likely have a local appeal as the neighboring Target Field — which lies just steps away from the basketball stadium, is made out of limestone mined from within Minnesota. Given the outdoorsy feel that the timberlands of northern Minnesota have, it’s not surprising that a woodsy ascetic was chosen.

Never the less, Target Center has been renovated once since opening in the early 90s which means it’s high time something changed. Fans would prefer the production on the court be the thing changing but getting a renovated arena isn’t a bad second option.
