LeBron James has already reached many unprecedented statistical records in his career, even though he is still only 29 years old and still has many years of quality basketball ahead of him. He is likely to reach yet another milestone in the next couple of games, as he is just 23 assists shy of having 1,000 dimes in playoff games.
As Tim Reynolds mentions, Tony Parker is also about to join the 1,000 assists club.

Looking at the guys that have reached the milestone, James and Parker will be joining some legendary company. Out of the nine guys that currently have 1,000 or more assists in the playoffs, six are inducted in the Hall of Fame, with the other three not yet eligible for consideration (Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd).
Again, the most impressive thing about this imminent achievement is how young James is. He probably won’t catch Magic Johnson, who leads the pack with 2,346 assists in the playoffs, but he is almost a lock to eventually place himself third on the list, a spot that is occupied by Kidd who has 1,263. As long as LeBron remains on a title contending team and plays a high volume of postseason games for the rest of his career, he’ll be right up there.
Other than James, only two other small forwards who have cracked the 1,000 mark are Scottie Pippen and Larry Bird.
LeBron also ranks eighth all-time in total points in the playoffs, and he will look to add to his totals as the Miami Heat take on the Indiana Pacers in game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday.
