Indiana Pacers swingman Lance Stephenson thought he’d be able to get into the head of Miami Heat superstar LeBron James with the use of trash talk.

More from Indiana Pacers

It hasn’t worked as James continues to put up MVP-like numbers while Stephenson, after a solid start to the series, has looked like a shell of his former self.

Racking up nine fouls and connecting on just six field goal attempts in his past two games, Stephenson, after suggesting he had no regrets tells the Indy Star he shouldn’t have said some of the things he did.

“It’s part of the game,” Stephenson continued. “I think I said some things that shouldn’t have been said. “Also Paul (George). We just gotta play basketball and stop worrying about all the other stuff.”

James seemed rather perplexed by Stephenson’s comments when the swingman began calling he and the Miami Heat out, which then started a war of words between the two sides.

Stephenson even went as far to say that the trash talk likely ‘bothered’ the Pacers and suggested he could take the heat for the backlash it created.

Of course, his comments could likely be swept under the rug if he puts in a performance he’s capable of come Game 5 as Stephenson and his Pacers attempt to fend off elimination, currently trialing the Heat by a 3-1 series deficit.

Whatever the case, it sounds as if this evening will be relatively quiet on the court as Stephenson hinted it’s time for the Pacers game to do the talking, not their (his) mouth.
