When the Dallas Cowboys lost linebacker Sean Lee for the foreseeable future, there were suggestions they could look into signing free agent Jonathan Vilma.

More from Miami Dolphins

Those talks were quickly squashed when the Cowboys stated they weren’t looking at outside options to replace Lee, leaving Vilma in the free agent pool.

Now apparently seeking out teams in need of a veteran linebacker, Vilma’s representatives allegedly contacted the Miami Dolphins recently though they apparently had no interest in the oft-injured talent.

"Representation for former UM and Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma reached out to the Dolphins, but Miami showed no interest after also passing on two other Canes linebackers in March: Jon Beason (Giants) and Darryl Sharpton (Redskins)."

While Vilma was once a very productive linebacker, he’s been a shell of his former self in recent years and that’s when he can stay on the field. Injured at a seemingly constant basis, the Dolphins understandably didn’t want to waste a roster spot on the former Miami Hurricane product.

There’s been talk hinting that Vilma’s career could be over, though, few teams are going to cut a young talent to give Vilma an opportunity currently. His best bet is to wait for an in-season injury and see if a team would have interest at that point.
