With Kevin Love heading into the final year of his contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, there has already been abundant talk about what will happen with the star power forward.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota has multiple options. They can trade him this summer either before or after the draft and try to get a number of picks or young players back in return. The team could also wait until the trade deadline and deal him then–however, they likely wouldn’t get as much in return since he would only be a few month rental. Finally, they could just keep him all year, try to make the playoffs and hope that he will re-sign in the offseason.

Whatever they decide to do, however, Love has made it clear that he will opt out of his current contract and become a free agent when it ends following next season. Today, in the wake of Flip Saunders deciding to take the Timberwolves’ head coaching position after deducing that he himself was in fact the best man for the job, Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Love’s intentions to enter free agency have not changed.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what ends up happening with Kevin Love in the near future. Regardless, there’s a great possibility that this will be his last season in Minnesota–if he even plays there this year at all.
