The Minnesota Timberwolves are desperately trying to convince Kevin Love to stay with the team while also playing hardball with him like they’re scorned lovers or something. After refusing to give him a max contract a few years ago that would have avoided this situation, the Wolves are now both saying they want to jeep Love but also saying he needs to grow up and stop whining about losing.

Ricky Rubio is going to try and mitigate by meeting with Love to discuss his future with the team, but Rubio himself is cautious of how shoddy the Wolves are being run.

In talking with NBA.com, Rubio mentioned that while he doesn’t want to go down the same path as Love is right now, he didn’t give a glowing endorsement of the Wolves as an organization either. In the same breath as saying he wants to convince Love to stay, Rubio also questioned his own future with the Wolves if the losing continues.

"“I like Minnesota. But I want to win too. Of course when a big guy like him leaves you’re thinking about what’s going to be happening with the team. Are we going to lose a lot? Before I came to Minnesota, the season before they won like 17 games. I was a little scared when I went there. I’m coming from Europe, where I was playing in Barcelona. I think we lost six games or seven games in two seasons and every loss was a disaster. I don’t want to go through a process like every win is something special.”"

There were a lot of questions about if Rubio would even come over and play for Minnesota when they drafted him back in 2009 and while he eventually came over it wasn’t without a lot of doubt. The primary cause for all of Minnesota’s problems is their inability to be a functioning member of the basketball society. They can’t win, refuse to get better and then get defensive and surprised when their star players want out.

It’s not rocket science but the Wolves don’t seem to get it and this may be Rubio planting the seeds for a possible escape of his own in a few years time.
