Samsung Galaxy 11: ‘Football Will Save the Planet,’ latest chapter in the story

Samsung has unveiled one of the most intricate and original promotional campaigns for their line of Galaxy products with the Galaxy 11. The premise is that an alien race has come to earth and challenged us to a soccer match, leaving the world to scramble to compile the best players to save the planet.

It started with symbols appearing in major locations New York City’s Times Square and football fields at Hackney Marshes in London with the hashtag “WinnerTakesEarth.” Then the internet was abuzz when mysterious robed fans started appearing at home games for Chelsea FC, Bayern Munich and Juventus FC – all Samsung-sponsored soccer teams.

Then Samsung began releasing videos of head coach Franz Beckenbauer and his work to recruit those players to the all-world team, starting with chasing down Lionel Messi in Barcelona and offering him the captain’s armband.

The roster is a remarkable list of the best players in the world, a roster only fans could ever dream about seeing on the field at the same time with superstars like Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Los Angeles Galaxy’s Landon Donovan amongst others.

Samsung has just released the latest chapter of the thrilling story and in this chapter the story really begins to take off with news stories regarding the aliens. It compiles highlights of the players being selected from the previous Galaxy 11 videos and providing a sneak peak at the dramatic scenes from the final match against aliens. It is also the first time we see the aliens in the series.

There is a custom song in the video titled “Football Will Save the Planet” and the video serves as a music video. Music video director Chris Sims of DNA (Usher and Christina Aguilera) worked with choreographer Jamaica Craft to create the upbeat football “dance” for this summer.
