Its never too early to start looking at top prospects for the 2015 NFL Draft and ESPN’s Mel Kiper released his top prospects at the quarterback position and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Jameis Winston, headlines the list he broke down by seniors and underclassmen.

More from College Football

The underclassmen offers no shortage of star power with the aforementioned Winston the No. 1 overall player on Kiper’s big board after a tremendous redshirt freshman season that also included a national championship. He is not without his flaws on or off the field and depending on how he matures as a person and how he refines his delivery and footwork could result in Winston returning for his redshirt junior season.

Marcus Mariota returned for his redshirt junior season this year when he could have been the top quarterback taken and perhaps the No. 1 overall selection. He is in the running to overtake Winston as the top draft-eligible signal-caller.

Rounding out Kiper’s top list of underclassmen are Brett Hundley of UCLA, Connor Cook of Michigan State, Kevin Hogan of Stanford and Jacob Coker of Alabama.

The top senior on Kiper’s board is Baylor’s Bryce Petty who will be on the shortlist for Heisman contenders this season after throwing for more than 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns to only three interceptions. He will be a candidate to go in the first round, but the others on the list will have a lot of work to do to crack the top 32 picks.

Sean Mannion from Oregon State, Braxton Miller from Ohio State, Taylor Kelly from Arizona State and Hutson Mason from Georgia round our Kiper’s top five senior quarterbacks.

These players represent the quarterbacks we should all take a close look at during the upcoming college football season as they could very well be playing for your favorite NFL team one year from now.

I believe the 2015 crop of quarterbacks is much more advanced than the group we saw in 2014 and we could see at least four taken in the top half of the draft with Winston, Mariota, Petty and Hundley looking like safe bets to hear their name called very early.

Who do you think will be the first quarterback drafted next year? Who is the best quarterback not named by Kiper?
