NBA Draft 2014: Shabazz Napier holds workout with Minnesota Timberwolves
By Brad Rowland
Former UConn point guard Shabazz Napier has been one of the most interesting names surrounding pre-draft workouts for the NBA, and when you consider his previous NCAA impact concerning his post-Championship comments, Napier has been a focal point for a great deal of coverage. In addition, he has reportedly performed well in various workouts for NBA teams, and the 6-foot-1 guard had another opportunity on Friday with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Napier, who played four years in college, is the rare exception to the rule that seniors don’t excel in the NBA Draft process, and he is a consensus first round selection with some upside. The Timberwolves currently hold the 13th overall pick in the draft, which is considered to be on the high side for Napier’s draft stock, but he is also the highest rated player listed in Friday’s workout with the club.
At the time of this post, ESPN’s Chad Ford projects Napier to the Miami Heat with 26th overall selection, while Draft Express pegs him to the Charlotte Hornets (yes, the Hornets) with the 24th overall pick. Both of those mocks seem exceedingly reasonable, and NBA teams who are in search of an NBA-ready guard would have a tough time going wrong by selecting Napier.
Shabazz Napier may not possess the absolute ceiling of some of his counterparts, but the T-Wolves could certainly do much worse, even with the 13th overall pick.
