The Cleveland Cavaliers are likely having a bit of buyers remorse after forking over a hefty surplus of assets to the Chicago Bulls for what appears to be a half season rental of Luol Deng.

There have been varying reports on the Cavaliers interest in re-signing Deng and the same can be said for his interest in returning to the Cavs as well, which has lead many to believe it’s very possible Deng could bolt in free agency. If he does, there are a handful of teams expected to show interest in the forward, especially the teams that are setting themselves up to acquire Carmelo Anthony.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Heat, Rockets and Mavericks are all teams expected to court Deng as a Anthony replacement.
“Any news on the Luol Deng front? —> Shopping for his contender – watch Miami, Dallas and Houston if they miss on Melo”
It’s a perfect storm for Deng as he’s likely to have a team, wounds still fresh off missing out on Anthony, offer up what could be significant money to sign. Of course, the Cavaliers likely hope that they could engage Deng and his new team to partake in a possible sign-and-trade scenario considering they hold his Bird Rights, though we’re still quite a ways from anything on that front happening.
For now, it’s simply a rumor but one that makes sense for all teams involved as well as Deng who, while not Melo, makes a very nice consolation prize for a team in need of a defensive minded small forward who can score the rock.
