Kansas City Royals’ left fielder Alex Gordon has played great baseball all season. He was just waiting for his teammates in the lineup to catch up with him. Now that they finally have, the Royals have won 10 straight games and look like a team to be reckoned with.

The Royals’ offense has broken out in the last week or so, but they needed to win a tight game to get their 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday to make it 10 straight. That made great defensive plays that much more important, and Gordon delivered one with a runner in scoring position in the fourth inning.
Poor J.D. Martinez. He has now been victimized twice by Royals’ outfielders on shots to the outfield that should have been base hits. That happened to him earlier in the series when Lorenzo Cain was able to lay out for a nice diving catch, and it happened to him again on Wednesday when Gordon robbed him of a hit and an RBI.
There have been many standout players for the Royals, but Gordon has to top the list. That is true because of his offense (.288/.369/.462) as well as his elite defense.
