Pick up Jake Marisnick and James Jones if you need speed in deep leagues

Welcome back to “Off The Deep End”, where I will give you fantasy baseball tips on who to pick up in deeper leagues. For people who play standard leagues, drop/add columns are easy for you to find, but for those of you that love deeper leagues, advice can be harder to come by. That is where I can help. All of these players are available in 85% or more of ESPN leagues.

This time around we will do things a little differently. I will only do one position at a time, but I will give you advice on who to drop as well.

This time we will focus on the outfielders.  Since you start three times the outfielders as players at other positions, I will give you more players.  That means you get the adds today, and the drops tomorrow.

Add:

J.D. Martinez, Tigers: He could have a hard time finding at bats once Torii Hunter gets healthy, but I tend to think the Tigers are going to roll with him until he cools off.  That means you should too.  He is hitting a blistering .447 with four homers and 11 RBI over the last two weeks.

James Jones, Mariners: If you are looking for cheap steals, look no further.  Jones has swiped six bags over the last two weeks and is hitting .313 over that span with eight runs scored.

Josh Harrison, Pirates: For a full length read, our resident Pirates fan offered his take on Harrison.  Personally, I like his second base eligibility.  Neil Walker could be back by the middle of next week, but if Harrison continues to hit, Jose Tabata will lose at bats.

Kevin Kiermaier, Rays: True, he is known more for his defense than his offense.  The good defense just means that he will keep getting starts.  The .260 average with a homer isn’t much, but for those of you feeling the pinch by all the day-to-day outfielders, it’s nice to know that you have a solid plug in option.

Steve Pearce, Orioles: Few are hotter than Pearce right now.  He has two homers and seven RBI in the last four games.  If that isn’t enough, he is hitting .412 over the last two weeks.  He was only starting against lefties, but he has now started five straight because the Orioles need his offense.  Chances are you do too!

Jake Marisnick, Marlins: Think of him as Billy Hamilton lite.  He doesn’t have the blazing speed, but he is a brilliant thief.  He was called up on Monday, and already has four steals in 23 at bats.

Ichiro Suzuki, Yankees: Remember him?  He won’t collect 200 hits or steals 25 bags anymore, but he is starting to hit.  He has a .308 average over the last two weeks.  The bad news?  All 12 of his hits in that span are singles.  Still, if you need help with average, he can provide that.  And with the amount of runs that the Yankees score, if he is on base like he has been, the runs should see an uptick as well.
