World Cup fever is spreading throughout the world and throughout the United States, and it’s spreading to parts of the country that you may not have guessed.

During Monday’s game between Mexico and Croatia in Recife, Brazil, a fan was captured on television waving an Auburn flag.
Who would have guessed that Auburn would be represented during the World Cup between two international teams nonetheless?
Auburn fans are everywhere.
Football is still a couple months away for the Tigers as they look to repeat as SEC champions in the second year of head coach Gus Malzahn who orchestrated a magnificent turnaround from the 2012 team that managed to win only three games and was shutout in SEC play.
Auburn defeated rival Alabama in one of the best Iron Bowl games of all-time, broke records in the SEC Championship Game against Missouri when they scored 59 points and rushed for 545 yards against one of the nation’s stingiest rush defenses and played in the BCS Champioship Game against Florida State.
While the Auburn community waits for football season to come it appears that at least one Auburn fan is enjoying futbol season with the World Cup that has captivated the nation with some exciting play through two games.
The U.S. squad defeated Ghana in their opening match 2-1 and nearly upset Portugal on Sunday but allowed a goal in the final seconds of stoppage time to draw with the heavily-favored team at 2-2.
The U.S. team plays Germany on Thursday and I wonder if we’ll see any Auburn flags or any other college flags on display?
