Although Joel Embiid is no longer likely to be drafted with the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, that hasn’t stopped teams from calling the Cleveland Cavaliers in hopes of trading for the top selection. That’s the word from ESPN’s Chad Ford who in his most recent mock draft states a handful of teams have attempted to trade for the No. 1 pick during the last week.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

According to Ford, the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz have all sent trade offers to the Cavaliers hoping they would be enough to entice Cleveland to send the No. 1 pick back in return.

“The Cavs received intriguing offers from the Sixers, Magic and Jazz late last week,” says Ford. “Each is offering its own high lottery pick plus a veteran. The Cavs could theoretically get either of Thaddeus Young, Arron Afflalo or Derrick Favors and still have a top-5 pick in the draft. It would make it much easier to draft Embiid if you knew you got additional value in the form of a veteran who can help now.”

While none of those offers are ‘bad’, per say, there’s nothing there that would likely make the Cavaliers pull the trigger unless they still felt they wanted to draft Joel Embiid. If that’s the case, then those deals are something to be considered however if they’re looking to draft Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins as many seem to believe, they’d likely need more assets from the above teams to feel comfortable making a deal.

Regardless, it does appear teams are doing what they can to obtain the number one pick and Cleveland seems to be listening, as they should.
