It appears the Dallas Mavericks may be picking on the Washington Wizards today as not only are the Mavericks said to be interested in big man Marcin Gortat, they’re also apparently interested in his Wizards teammate, Trevor Ariza.

More from Dallas Mavericks

It’s been a busy few days surrounding the Dallas Mavericks rumor mill considering they were first linked to potential interest in Pau Gasol and Luol Deng before news broke suggesting that Gortat and Ariza could also be of interest to Mark Cuban and company.

"NBA sources tell DallasBasketball.com that the Mavs have Trevor Ariza high on their list of July 1 shopping targets. This is, of course, at a level beneath “big fish.” But once you get beyond LeBron/Melo territory and into Deng/Ariza territory … Ariza becomes a get.  But there is a problem here, for while Ariza seems, at 28, to have blossomed into exactly the sort of two-way forward Dallas tells me it covets, he also seems to be a “contract-year” kinda guy."

Ariza will never be a household name, but he’s what many consider to be a ‘glue’ type player, somebody who just fits into his role and doesn’t attempt to go beyond it. Of course, the Mavericks would likely be interested in Ariza as more of a last resort as they probably don’t want to spend a significant portion of their available cap space on what is essentially a very solid role player.

All that said, if the Dallas Mavericks could get him on what would be considered ‘mid-level exception’ type money, he’d be a solid addition in Big D.
