The Golden State Warriors have seemingly given it their all in regards to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love, but the two sides simply can’t find a middle ground. Some suspect that is due to the Warriors reluctance to include sharp shooter Klay Thompson in any deal, though we’ve heard varying reports on the Warriors’ interest (or lack of) to include Thompson in a deal.

More from Golden State Warriors

Whatever the case may be, one thing is clear and it’s that the Warriors (who are obviously looking to make a big splash) prefer Kevin Love to soon-to-be free agent, Carmelo Anthony. The New York Knicks small forward is all but certain to opt-out of his contract Monday but according to Tim Kawakami, it’s Love who the Warriors desire, not Melo.

“Could the Golden State Warriors turn their attention to Carmelo Anthony? With Lacob/Myers, anything’s possible, but KLove is a much preferred option,” says Kawakami.

It’s an understandable stance given the construction of the Warriors’ roster. With Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson both playing similar positions and Stephen Curry a ball dominating player, there really isn’t any room for Anthony. He’s also not known for his defensive skills, something the Warriors want to reportedly improve upon.

Add in that current power forward David Lee, while talented, isn’t nearly as talented as Love and it seems rather obvious why the Golden State Warriors would prefer Love over Anthony.

Of course, we haven’t heard if Melo himself would be interested in playing for the Warriors, so the talk is all speculation at this point but it doesn’t sound like the two are a good match regardless.
