On Monday nigh the Miami Hurricanes got a commitment from 2016 4-star quarterback Jack Allison, and on Tuesday morning the 2016 momentum continued for Al Golden and the Hurricanes. According to a report by 247Sports’ Kipp Adams, Top247 linebacker Shaq Quarterman added his name to the 2016 commitment list too.

Quarterman isn’t just a Top247 linebacker, he’s one of the best at his position in the entire country. He is the No. 2-ranked inside linebacker according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also in the No. 9-ranked player in Florida and currently is the No. 83-ranked player in the nation by the 247Sports composite rankings.

He announced his commitment via Twitter, with a simple statement of “I verbally committed to The University of Miami this morning.”

The Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf prospect is the third overall commitment for the Hurricanes in the 2016 class, and the most highly rated recruit in the fold to date. He is also the second inside linebacker to join the class of 2016, with currently unranked Michael Pickney of Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines being the first overall commit to ‘the U.’

With Quarterman’s commitment, the Hurricanes moved up from No. 13 to No. 5 in the national team rankings and from No. 3 to No. 1 in the ACC rankings.

Miami’s current depth chart at middle linebacker has a sophomore (JaWand Blue) and a freshman (Juwon Young) backing up a senior. It means when Quarterman arrives on campus, those two backups will be upperclassmen or potentially gone and that leaves the door open for Quarterman to make an early impact given the numbers in play.
