The Denver Nuggets made a big splash prior to the NBA Draft when they traded for Orlando Magic shooting guard Arron Afflalo to bring him back to Denver and they made another splash when they drafted with the No. 11 overall pick.

More from Denver Nuggets

In the days and weeks leading up to the draft, the Chicago Bulls were mentioned in trade talks with the Nuggets where they would give up picks No. 16 and No. 19 to move up to No. 11 with the hopes of addressing the shooting guard position, but after those talks reportedly broke down, the Nuggets drafted three-time All-American and college basketball’s fifth all-time leading scorer, Doug McDermott.

With young prospects like Kenneth Faried, Danilo Gallinari, Jan Vesely, Anthony Randolph, Quincy Miller all 25 years old or younger, the Nuggets add another young player they hope will help the Nuggets get back into the postseason. The Nuggets missed the playoffs for the first time since 2002-2003 this past season when they went 36-46.

Here was the reactions in the wake of McDermott going 11th overall.

Moments after McDermott was drafted his draft rights were traded to the Chicago Bulls as those trade talks were not as dead as we were led to believe and the Bulls traded their No. 16 and No. 19 picks to the Nuggets and free up salary cap space for a run at Carmelo Anthony.
