Brian Dozier and Dustin Pedroia are worth more in 10×10 leagues

I realize that over the last couple of months I have largely neglected non-standard scoring leagues.  I have covered 5×5 and points leagues, but not 10×10 leagues.  So that is what we will cover for the next week.  The players who have hidden value in 10×10 leagues because of doubles, triples, holds, etc.  The things that don’t stand out in a standard league.

The standard 10×10 categories are hits, runs, average, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, walks, steals, and OPS.  For pitchers it is wins, losses, ERA, WHIP, saves, holds, strikeouts, quality starts, K/9 and complete games.

We will go position by position and find the hidden gems in 10×10 leagues.

This post will focus on second basemen.

Brian Dozier, Twins: The 15 homers and 15 steals are valuable everywhere, but the 50 walks lead all second basemen.  So even though is average is hovering around the .250 mark, his OPS is still above .800.  He leads all second basemen in runs, home runs, and walks.  He is third in steals and sixth in OPS at the position.  He provides constant production even if the average is a little on the low side.

Jose Altuve, Astros: Altuve leads all second basemen in batting average at .334.  He is also second in steals (30), tied for third in doubles (23), fifth in OPS (.813).

Dee Gordon, Dodgers: Everyone knows he is leading the planet in stolen bases, but did you know that he also leads the majors with nine triples?  His 44 runs scored and 24 walks also provide solid production in a 10×10 league.  He is one of the rare players that might win you two categories by himself!

Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox: His 5×5 numbers are disappointing.  Four homers, two steals, and a .265 average don’t do much for you.  However, in a 10×10, he can help.  He is in the top five in runs, doubles, and walks.  See if someone wants to sell him on the cheap.

Daniel Murphy, Mets: He is a sneaky source of speed.  His 11 steals are fourth among second basemen.  He is also in the top five in runs, and the top ten in doubles and walks.

Anthony Rendon, Nationals: Rendon has heated up after a slow start.  He is in the top five in runs scored home runs, and OPS among second basemen. He also has double digit doubles and walks, so he is helping everywhere right now.
