The state of Ohio is gearing up to see Johnny Manziel (Johnny Football) on the football field this season for the Cleveland Browns, but before the Browns’ second of two first round picks steps foot on the field for the Browns, Johnny Footlong will make its debut for the Akron Rubberducks.

The new menu item is a half-pound Five Star hot dog topped with Texas Jack chili, shredded pepper jack cheese and Sriracha sauce and sells for $8 at The Dog Pound concession stand in left field.

“We’re always looking to incorporate the sporting trends of northeastern Ohio into our menu,” Director of Food and Beverage Brian Manning said. “This is a great way to mix the excitement in the region with a fun, delicious and quality product.”

“Johnny Football mania is in full swing at Canal Park, and we are excited to have a food & beverage offering dedicated to the new Browns Quarterback. It’s an exciting time for the Akron and Cleveland area,” RubberDucks’ General Manager Jim Pfander said.

Minor league baseball teams are no stranger to using unique ploys or attractions to bring in fans during the summer months and it makes perfect business sense to capitalize on the Manziel mania that is overtaking the state since the Browns selected him in last May’s draft after trading up four spots to take the former Texas A&M quarterback.

The Akron Rubberducks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and unveiled the footlong hot dog named in honor of the 2012 Heisman winner and potential starting quarterback for the Browns on June 27th.

If you’re in the Akron area are you going to attend a RubberDucks game and buy a Johnny Footlong?
